Last Friday, Shana and I had dinner at L'Atelier in Boulder, CO for my birthday. L'Atelier is owned by Radek Cerny, a local chef and fixture in the Denver/Boulder restaurant scene. He used to operate my favorite restaurant in Denver--Radex--until he shut that and his other restaurants down to take a sabbatical.
If L'Atelier is the result, then thank god for sabbaticals.
I've become fond of saying, in regard to design and fashion, that it is important for a thing to look good for the same reason that it is important for food to taste good. L'Atelier really proves this point. Radek positively envelopes you in cuisine for a couple of hours. Every aspect of the dining experience is controlled, the service is relaxed but impecable, and nothing distracts from the food. The result is exquisite nourishment for the body and the soul.
We ordered the ten-course "Menu Degustation" which was perfectly timed and portioned. (The photos were taken without flash--thus the low quality, and I forgot to take dinner of dessert--profiteroles with chocolate foam, vanilla sauce, and rasberry sauce).
